‘We did commit these crimes’: Post-Ottoman solidarities, contested places and Kurdish apology for the Armenian Genocide on Web 2.0

Web 2.0 facilitates the articulation of transcultural solidarities between Armenian, Assyrian, Greek and Kurdish social media users. This has led to a growing trend for some users apologise complicity in Ottoman crimes, most notably Armenian Genocide. These post-Ottoman layer different times places, creating digital palimpsests where fantasies about place can be constructed, but that remain connected enduring historical identities concerns future territorial borders. multitemporal montages foster reconciliation erstwhile antagonists, lead mutual recognition shared victimhood, perhaps even form basis more inclusive sense (lost) place. Yet, these also incubate nationalist irredentism othering. Moreover, they frequently founder on very notions territoriality exclusive identity sometimes seem ostensibly transcend.
